derek beaulieu's six books of poetry and conceptual writing all engage with textual production and the way that composition informs comprehension. His first book, with wax, was published by Coach House Books in 2003, and was followed-up by frogments from the frag pool: haiku after basho (Mercury Press, 2005) co-written with Gary Barwin and fractal economies (talonbooks, 2006). His most recent book is chains (paper kite press, 2008) a collection of non-semantic lettraset-based concrete poetry.

beaulieu is also co-editor, with angela rawlings & Jason Christie of the best-selling anthology Shift & Switch: new Canadian poetry.

He has been editor of filling Station (1998-2001, 2004-present), dANDelion (2001-2004) and endNote (2000-2002) magazines. His small press housepress (1997-2004) published over 290 publications and is now archived, in its entirely, at Simon Fraser University.

beaulieu's conceptual novel flatland: a romance of many dimensions was published in 2007 in a limited edition by Simon Morris's acclaimed press information as material (York, UK). His second conceptual novel, Local Colour, is forthcoming from ntamo (Finland) in 2008.

Sina Queyras recently wrote that "beaulieu may well be the most articulate poet in Canada when it comes to visual and conceptual poetry, and he has much to offer pedagogically as well as artistically."

Beaulieu lives in Calgary where he is a sessional instructor at the University of Calgary.
