Here We Come to Save the Day!

Last night's Joyland Joy-a-thon was a rousing success on all fronts. Brian Joseph Davies and Emily Schultz are now able to take their traveling caravan of short stories on a whirl wind tour and the audience had their life greatly improved by the sheer number of excellent readings that took place. Crowd favorites included (but were not limited to) "Hot Bitches" read by Emily Holton, a Jonathan Lethem short story read by Carl Wilson, ECW editor Michael Holmes doing his best Jon Paul Fiorentino and Rebecca Rosenblum's cripplingly sad tale "Black-and-White Man". If you missed out, you can read the stories for yourself by clicking over to Joyland.ca.

For tonight you're going to need your best cape and tights for Comics to the Rescue. Just when the book seemed beyond all hope, comic artists have arrived to save the day! Our heroes Willow Dawson, Evan Munday, Claire Nobbs, Mariko Tamaki and Angela Szczepaniak swallow their proton pills and attempt to revive, rescue, revisit, and reinterpret the literary industry. Accompanying them will be host Willow Dawson and while including projections (but not readings) of comics from a team of mighty artists, including Hope Larson, Kate Beaton, Steve Rolston, stef lenk, and Doug Wright Award recipients Dave Lapp Jeff Lemire, Jillian Tamaki and Matt Forsythe. Please note that due to a scheduling conflict, we have had to switch hosts from Elvira Kurt to Willow Dawson. The event starts at 7PM at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre.

In other news, we've had our manifesters post their words from the Five New Manifestos on the Book event on Tuesday:

Bill Kennedy's Manifesto
Margaret Christakos' Manifesto
Jay MillAr's Manifesto

Bloggers! Here! And here!

We've also extended the deadline for Dennis Lee Booklength Tickets to the end of the day. Get them now!
